Clothing Design

Here are some links to clothing I have designed and produced. Included are my first works with felt through creating the textile by hand, screen printing, and learning to sculpt the medium. Some are full felted garments using resist techniques in order to achieve seamless pieces.
Another highlight, though I do not have much up now, is my obsession with functional, transformable clothing. I used to design nothing but. I have so many iterations of a sweatshirt that turns into a back-pack it’s not even funny. I believe that the wearer should be able to engage and create with their clothing, this is also heavily inspired by instructional and packaging design.

+ 2004 Final Undergrad Collection
This is the first time I learned how to felt. I also designed two other textiles for this collection. A paper fabric, which I zig-zagged stitched about 4 layers over with rust colored thread and then submerged in water in order to break up the paper in between the stitching. This created a knit like texture and feel.
The second is a blackboard fabric of which you can chalk on and then erase. I have since used this textile in many projects I have designed.
Also, you will see screen prints I designed and printed myself, both on woven fabric and felt.

+ 2007 San Francisco Fashion Week
This collection furthered my mastery of the medium of wool felt. For most of these pieces I used a resist wet felt technique to create seamless garments. Coupled with needle felting, I was able to sculpt and shape the garments around the body with little to no sewing. The only seams you can see at times are tucks or shoulder seams. This is also the first time I ever attempted nuno felting… a technique that I want to further explore.
Accessories designed and created by Chrystie Cappelli. She creates her pieces by weaving copper and other metals, which she then oxidizes. One of the most labor intensive and gorgeous techniques I have ever seen!

+ skirt/backpack
One version of a design I keep perfecting. Click the other two thumbnails below to see the different modes.

+ felt stitch hat
Some of the most well received pieces I have created out of felt are hats. They are warm, I get to be creative with the design, and they end up being affordable!

There is so much more to show! I will be updating this page regularly with past works.
